When the first
part of the lamination was finished the new keel was moved by hoist to
the shop below where it was planed to the proper thickness. From here it
went back to the loft where additional white oak was laminated in place
to create a structure where pockets could be made to accept the new
ribs. This solid construction replaced the galvanized nail fastened "
cheek blocks " that were used on the original keel.
